i was sitting at a diner counter eating my eggs and doing the nytimes crossword and couldn't help but overhear two folks talking about the election of 8 days ago
they were both in their late 60s or early 70s. the woman told that man that she voted for mccain because "obama's father was a jew and that he (obama) was gay" and that she had heard this on one of those "nut-job" pandering radio shows (probably hannity or limbaugh)
i can 't believe this...for two reasons
first: how can anyone, in this day and age, cast their vote based on what they believe about a person's heritage AND second: that people actually believe what they hear on these idiotic radio shows which pander to these people
i can only gasp at the weak-mindedness that exists out there and cn understand why these shows have such a tremendous following...i guess its the same reason that a lot of these preachers are pulling down millions of dollars a year by convincing those same weak minds that they can buy their way into heaven
these people were talking like the election of obama equates to the end of the world...that he is some srt of anti-Christ and we'll all be speaking arabic before long....very scary when people talk like this....i worry about my children being exposed to this type of thinking
if you don't like obama, all well and good...but dislike him for sensical reasons...maybe he'll spend too much of our tax money (what?..on the war? bailouts? haliburton?) speaking of haliburton, i heard they won the bid for the moving job at the whitehouse...2 billion dollars..not bad
dislike obama, if you have to for legitimate reasons...not because his father wa black or he's a harvard grad, or his father was a muslim.....the man proved that those words of the declaration of independence do have some meaning....that all men are created equal and that this country, and no other, will prosper and will truly become "united" as it moves into the 21st century...i am jealous of my sons and their sons and daughter because they will see what i believe will be a united states where although there still may be that "diner" talk i heard this morning, it will only be because we have the right to speak our mind and not because our country's ideals have eroded to the point where the panderers' collective ignorance guides us
